Itinerary
After breakfast, visit the Mahabodhi Temple Complex (05:00 AM–09:00 PM), including the sacred Bodhi Tree and key sites like Animesha Lochana, Chankramana Asthal, and Muchalinda Lake.
Later, visit Sujata Village and Sujata Temple, then explore international monasteries and the 80-ft Buddha statue. Return to the hotel for lunch.
In the afternoon, drive to Dungeshwari Cave Temples (20 km), where Lord Buddha meditated before enlightenment.
In the evening, visit the Mahabodhi Temple to attend the Sutta Chanting in Pali (6:30 PM – 7:00 PM).
Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Rajgir (approx. 65 km), where Lord Buddha spent 12 years. The First Buddhist Council was held here at the Saptaparni Caves.
Visit the Peace Pagoda (Vishwa Shanti Stupa) and Griddhakuta (Vulture’s Peak). The Griddhakuta Hills, shaped like a sitting vulture, were a frequent resting place for Buddha after his teachings
Venuvan (Bamboo Garden): King Bimbisara built Venuvana as an offering to Buddha. It is a Japanese-style shrine set in a bamboo grove.
After lunch, drive to Nalanda (approximately 15 km) to visit the ruins of the world’s oldest university, the International Centre for Buddhist Studies, and the Nalanda Museum (closed on Fridays).
Later, drive to Vaishali (approximately 115 km / 3 hours). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in Vaishali.
After breakfast at the hotel, visit Vaishali, where Lord Buddha delivered his last sermon before attaining Mahaparinirvana and announced his impending death. Vaishali is also renowned as the world’s first republic (6th century BCE). Visit the Ananda Stupa, Ashokan Lion Pillar, World Peace Pagoda (built by Japanese monk Nipponzan Myohoji), and the famous Buddha Relic Stupa.
Return to the hotel. After lunch, drive to Kushinagar. En- route, visit Kesariya, where the Kalama Sutta was delivered—One of the largest Buddhist stupa in the world.
On arrival in Kushinagar, transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Kushinagar
After breakfast at the hotel, visit one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites—where Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana after his death.
Visit the Mahaparinirvana Temple, where Buddha took his final breaths. Inside the temple is a large golden statue of Buddha lying down with a gentle smile on his face. Next, visit Rambhar Stupa (also known as Mukutbandhan Chaitya), the cremation site of Lord Buddha, located 1.5 km from the Nirvana Temple.
Return to the hotel for lunch and rest for a while. Later drive to Lumbini, approximately 180 km / 5 hours. Lumbini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the birthplace of Lord Buddha. En route, stop at the India/Nepal border for visa and immigration formalities (ensure you have a double or multiple-entry visa for India). Upon arrival in Lumbini, check in at your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in Lumbini.
After breakfast, visit the Mayadevi Temple, the birthplace of Buddha, where a sacred stone marks his exact birth spot. Visit the Ashoka Pillar and Puskarini Sacred Pond, where Prince Siddhartha was bathed after birth.
Return to the hotel for lunch, and then drive to Kapilavastu—Buddha’s childhood home. Continue to Sravasti, where he delivered key sermons and performed miracles.
Upon arrival in Sravasti, check in at your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in Sravasti.
After breakfast at the hotel, visit Saheth (Jetavanaram), where Buddha is believed to have spent 24 rainy seasons, and Maheth (Angulimala Caves). You will also visit other sights in Shravasti, including Jetavana Vihara, the Ananda Bodhi Tree, various monasteries, Angulimala’s Stupa, and Anathapindika Stupa.
Return to the hotel for lunch, then drive to Varanasi, approximately 320 km away (about 8 hours). Varanasi, also known as Kashi or Benares, is the world’s oldest living city, situated on the banks of the Ganges River. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Varanasi.
Early morning boat ride on the River Ganges. Then return to the hotel for breakfast. Afterward, proceed to Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon to his five disciples after attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.
Visit Dhamekha Stupa and Deer Park (Timings: 6 AM – 6 PM), where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta) and set the Wheel of Dharma in motion.
Dhamekha Stupa, built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, stands 43.6 meters (143 ft) tall and 28 meters (92 ft) in diameter at the base. Constructed with red bricks and stone, it marks the site where Buddha taught the Five Ascetics (Panchavargiya Bhikkhus).
Other important sites include:
Chaukhandi Stupa, Ashoka Pillar,Sarnath Archaeological Museum (Closed on Fridays) and Mulagandhakuti Vihara.
Return to the hotel for lunch. The rest of the day is at leisure or free for shopping—Varanasi is famous for its silk products.
At the appropriate time, transfer to Varanasi Airport to board your flight for your onward destination with happy memories.
