IndiGo Airlines direct flights between Gaya and Bangkok
In a major boost to international connectivity and Buddhist tourism, the Bihar Cabinet has approved a proposal for IndiGo Airlines to launch direct non-stop flights between Gaya and Bangkok. The decision was officially taken during the cabinet meeting held on May 20, 2026.
The upcoming air service is expected to strengthen travel ties between India and Thailand while making it easier for international pilgrims to visit Bodh Gaya, one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world. Bodh Gaya attracts thousands of visitors every year, especially from Thailand, where Buddhism is widely practiced.
Officials believe the new direct connection will significantly enhance religious tourism, promote cultural exchange, and support the local economy through increased international arrivals. The route is also expected to benefit tour operators, hotels, transport services, and businesses connected to the tourism sector in Bihar.
According to government sources, IndiGo is likely to begin operations before the upcoming Buddhist tourist season, offering travelers a faster and more convenient journey between the two destinations.
The initiative reflects Bihar’s continued efforts to improve global connectivity and position the state as a leading center for Buddhist heritage tourism.
